I've just spent the past two days making cakes. Two of the cakes were birthday gifts for my friend's kids (who have birthdays around the same time so they have 1 big party). The other was for a lady who wanted a cake for her husband.
The cake for the 11 year old girl is probably the most horrifically ugly cake I've ever made. I call the base color "radioactive pink." The color in the picture is actually not as bright as it was originally. I took half of the original color and added that much white icing to it to make the color shown. I had to. I was afraid it would glow in the dark and people would wonder what that strange glow coming from my window was.
This was the picture they sent me as a reference:
But she wanted a bright pink base and all buttercream (not fondant). Also she wanted lime green and turquoise on the pink. I tried the turquoise on it but it was so bad that I had to take it off and just use another color of green. So this is what the finished cake looks like:
Like I said, probably the ugliest thing I've ever made. I don't know what she thinks of it yet. I figure she'll either hate it because it's not exactly what she wanted or she'll love it cause it's so over the top, she's eleven, who knows what to expect.
But the other ones turned out pretty well. Here are the 3D sports cake and the Tennessee football field cake.
If you happen to read this, leave me a comment to let me know what you think.

Edit: I just talked to the folks the cakes were for, they loved them.

Those cakes are fantastic! Great job! I am very impressed. Thank you for the comment and thanks for stopping by my site! :)
How fabulous! I love your cakes. Thanks for the music tip you left for me. I look forward to reading more of your blog.
I think the cakes are great even the pink and green an eleven year old girl should love it. Thanks for visiting me and hope you'll come back soon. My daughter and I have both baked cakes and decorated. She does it way more than I do. Do you have a great recipe for a very moist yellow cake that could also be used for wedding cake?
