Kroger shopping trip

Mr. McHacker and I did a little shopping at Kroger today so I thought I would post a pic and keep track of my total spent so far this year. My goal is $35 a week, with 52 weeks in a year, that makes my yearly budget $1820 for groceries. I hope I will actually spend a lot less than that once I get the hang of the couponing stuff a little better.

Today's purchases:
Bacon - sale@ $2.50

Boneless, skinless chicken breasts - sale $1.97 lb - 2 packages (14 breasts in all) = $13.71

Kroger ground beef (not in the picture)- 5 lbs @ $9.20

2 packs Kroger cheese @ 2/$5

2 Lean Cuisine @ $1.88 each minus $1off 2 coupon = $2.76

Kroger milk @ $2.19

Colgate toothpaste - sale $1.50 minus $0.75 coupon = $0.75

Kellogg's cereal - sale 3/$8 - buy 3 get $4 off = $4.00

Kroger eggs - sale 3/$4 = $1.34

tax = $3.30
coupon savings =$5.75
savings using Kroger card = $24.03

Today's total = $44.75
Year to date total spending = $59.57
Year to date left in budget = $1760.43

Today's savings wasn't nearly as good as I wanted it to be. Since I'm just getting started with coupons, I don't really have a good stash built up yet. Hopefully that will continue to get better. I wish my Kroger would double coupons, but they don't. They do take the internet printable ones though. And I just found out that Piggly Wiggly will double coupons up to $0.50, so I'm going to start getting their sale paper every week and see if I can find some good deals there. The grocery store sale papers come out here on Wednesdays, so I'm planning another grocery trip later in the week, hopefully with more savings than today.

Seems like you're doing great! I can't even get milk that cheap at Aldi's! I grew up with Kroger and I sure do miss them.

get one of those photo holders and always check for double coupon days. there are a lot of blogs that will tell you how to save on things too, if I find any I'll send you a note...
good job.. Budgets are so not my thing but we are trying..
just remember, only clip on things you use, I have ended up spending more because I keep coupons for things I don't ever eat.. dang you Ice Cream!!!(waving fist!)

okay...i have to you buy groceries and then plan what to cook or do you plan the meals and look for the best deals around? I'm interested to know, cause I've seen those shows where people go shopping and get $300 worth of groceries for like $20. If I did what you're doing (and you know it wouldn't be done well) we'd be eating a steady diet of Gummi Bears....

If you haven't done so, check out Lots of coupon discussing on there! Keep up the good work.

since you left your comment on my blog I have been bitten by the coupon bug too. It is becoming an addiction. I went to Kroger last night and I save $87 - my total bill was $70 so I got my items for less than half of the retail cost. That is good but I want to learn to do better too. I have some blogs I found if you will email me maybe we can work together on this to save a ton of money this year.
